SEB AGNEW – SYNCOPE
WOMEN’S MUSEUM WIESBADEN
The conceptual photo series “Syncope” — the medical term for “fainting” or “unconsciousness” — explores the human feeling of disorientation in the context of our everyday lives. Again and again we briefly lose our focus, and moments of supposedly supreme concentration become moments when we are least present.
This metaphorical loss of awareness and orientation has become a daily companion for many of us and a new normality. Caused, for example, by increasing fast-paced life and the growing complexity of our everyday lives.
The twelve motifs in “Syncope” play with situations that are staged, but draw their inspiration from the here and now and from our experiences. How do we deal with this collective powerlessness in the long run? And how do we manage to maintain our focus in a world full of stimuli and ongoing challenges? This series by Seb Agnew asks that, too.
