»Better Days«

South Korea has undergone rapid economic growth over the past 40 years—bringing both opportunities and challenges. Despite long working hours, many Koreans take only half of their annual leave, often spending it at home due to time constraints. At the same time, the country faces a steadily ageing population and a society shaped by strict hierarchies of age and social status.

In his carefully composed images, Seunggu Kim captures the unique holiday culture of South Korea’s urban leisure spaces. His work offers a thoughtful glimpse into how people navigate the pressures of modern life in a society full of contrasts. With a subtle eye, he visualises both the fast-paced rhythm of daily life and the resilience—and desire—of South Koreans to find moments of joy.
