Julius Schien

»Rechtes Land«

Since German reunification, more than 200 people have been killed in Germany as a result of right-wing violence—over 200 lives that society briefly acknowledges, only to forget again. Confronting the ongoing presence of right-wing extremism in Germany, Julius Schien’s project ‘Rechtes Land’ documents every one of these crime scenes, creating a unique visual catalogue of these places of violence.

The empty stages where these acts occurred take center stage. Through large-format, unpeopled photographs and accompanying texts, the stories of more than 200 lives are told. This growing archive stands as a stark index of right-wing violence, urging us to remember, to reflect, and to resist.

Looking toward the future means acknowledging the past—and taking a stand against hate.
